National Framework for Salinity Management

National Framework for Salinity Management

Challenge:
How to transform a body of technical studies into practical tools for policy makers to craft a national action plan to reduce salinity in agriculture?

The Iraq Salinity Initiative, was a consortium of development and research partners and some 100 scientists with the government of Iraq. We worked with science and program leaders to create a policy and technology package for senior Iraqi policy makers. It presents evidence in a useful form, to manage the salinity crisis affecting the agricultural sector. The package: Situation Analysis; Scoping of Solutions; Investment Options; a database of research results; promotional and policy summary materials to attract further funding. This package proposes solutions to ecosystems issues faced by many drylands countries.

Partners: Italian Cooperation, Australian Cooperation, ICARDA, Government of Iraq.
